The EDGE® initiative focuses on four collective challenges:
- Working with a cumbersome, lengthy and expensive acquisition processes where it can take anywhere
from five to 10 years to field a new capability
- Taming the complexity of an overwhelming amount of available information for users
- The “hype cycle” for new technologies, programs or products leading to requests for the possible
instead of the practical
- A disconnected set of stakeholders (i.e. end-users, customers, industry and academia) with no clear
prioritization or focus on technology or funding application
The EDGE® provides an environment where technology developers and innovators are openly informed of user capability needs, and use open system interfaces to facilitate smooth integration of components.
Through the EDGE Network, these investments are better directed, participant and partners are better informed,
needs and gaps are prioritized and better focused resulting in more rapid delivery of solutions to first responders
and Warfighters.
