General Information

3Dots What is the EDGE?
The EDGE® Innovation Network is a revolutionary model where industry, academia, and non-profit organizations, along with government entities, collaborate in an open community environment to rapidly deliver new technologies and innovative capabilities to warfighters and first responders. Read more in our Information Paper.
What does the EDGE do?
The EDGE create and maintain an open environment where members and customers can characterize, nurture, develop and deliver current and emerging technologies and capabilities to equip a more mobile, better connected and better informed end-user.
How is the EDGE different from commercial or government labs?
The open collaborative environment of the EDGE helps industry and academia members to better understand user needs and more rapidly develop emerging technologies in a very flexible agile nature.

For members, the EDGE Innovation Network can potentially increase business opportunities in the government sector and between industries, by focusing research investments on technology and capabilities that customers and users truly need.

For customers and end users, the EDGE provides a forum for “idea incubation” on the art of the possible and affordable using emerging technologies. To create this “idea incubation”, the EDGE draws from a broad range of technologies that are often not visible to government agencies. The outcome is a larger set of potential solutions.

I understand the EDGE sponsors a Collaboration Series. What is it and how do
  I benefit from participating?
The EDGE® maintains an event schedule available on the website. EDGE members can elect to participate by registering for the event at the URL normally provided and notifying the EDGE Enterprise staff with you’re a a request to participate. Executive and Technology members pay no fee for participation. Contributing level members may be required to pay a nominal fee to cover expenses.
Are there EDGE members that provide business services to help support and/or navigate
Department of Defense business opportunities for inexperienced companies like mine?
Yes. A good number of Business Services members have expertise in specific domains and customer bases. You can review them on our Members page. We are not responsible for any transactions resulting from such introductions. Members have the responsibility for protecting their Intellectual Property.
Why does General Dynamics sponsor the EDGE? What’s in it for them?
Given the rapid pace of technology development and the vast breadth of those technologies, no single company has all the answers internally to meet the needs of its customers. Furthermore, going it alone is prohibitively costly and time-consuming. Collaboration between industry, academia, non-profit, and service organizations yields increased awareness of customers, end users and markets, as well as the ability to better leverage a collective set of ideas, available technologies, and resources.

New Members

I am a new EDGE member and have not attended an EDGE Orientation session yet.
How often are the sessions held and how will I be notified?
New Member Orientation sessions are scheduled periodically based on the volume of new members joining the EDGE®. Currently, the EDGE conducts virtual introductions approximately every other week. New members will be notified by invitation email. If you can’t make it on the date scheduled, you can attend the next session.
I’m a new EDGE member and would like to add others in my organization to the
mailing list for Inside the EDGE weekly newsletters. How do I do that?
The EDGE® encourages you to send us alternate contacts to receive routine communications from the Enterprise team. You can do this when you submit information after your initial orientation or any other time. Send your request with contact information to edgeinnovation@gdc4s.com.
I’m a new EDGE member and would like to be affiliated more closely with a particular
EDGE Innovation Center. Where do I start?
Send a request to us at edgeinnovation@gdc4s.com or call our toll free line at 1-888-406-EDGE (3343) in the Continental U.S. Those outside the U.S. should call 1-877-466-9467. We’ll provide information on the particular Innovation Center of interest and contact information for the appropriate EDGE® Innovation Center coordinator.
We are a relatively new company and are looking for more exposure. How can we leverage
the EDGE Network for business opportunities?
The EDGE® has a number of mechanisms to help your company gain exposure. Once you become a member, you can submit a company description for posting on the EDGE Innovation Network website. This is seen by EDGE members and many technology companies and government agencies that monitor the website. There are also opportunities to share technology highlights and lead virtual collaboration webinars that are viewed by the EDGE Innovation Network membership. All of these opportunities are an integral part of your EDGE Innovation Network membership.

Processes

3Dots What are Calls for Innovation?
Calls for Innovation are notices to industry and academia about an opportunity to innovate. Commonly referred to as CFIs, the objective is to share a technology opportunity or capability gap with a wide audience and then let the responders share innovative solutions with the CFI author.
3Dots I browsed the EDGE website and came upon an interesting Call for Innovation (CFI).
I think I have an interesting solution set. Can I respond as a non-EDGE member?
Yes, you can. Address your response to the contact provided in the CFI. However, non EDGE® members do not get the benefit of socializing their solutions with other members. We suggest you send an email to edgeinnovation@gdc4s.com and request that an EDGE member relations representative contact you and schedule an orientation session so you can learn how the benefits of membership can help your organization.
htrhtrw What is Visioneering?
Visioneering is a collaborative process focused on understanding or further defining end user needs or concepts of operations from which potential EDGE® projects are developed. Results are used by both government and EDGE members to rapidly develop, evaluate and field the best possible technological solutions for the need or requirement.

Provide your contact information, topic description, high level description of your idea and we will work with you to review its applicability to your target program and determine how best to support you.
3Dots We have identified a potential business opportunity but lack certain qualifications.
We are interested in finding other companies and organizations to collaborate with.
Can we search for collaborators in the EDGE Network?
